Call for Papers

The Asian Conference on Film and Documentary encourages sessions within and across a variety of disciplines and fields related to Film and Documentary, including:

Film Direction and Production
Film Criticism and Theory
Film and Literature: Artistic Correspondence
Film and Biography
Film History
Documentary History and Archive-Based Studies
Films and Digital Distribution (Use of the Internet and video sharing)
Anime and Digital Film Production
Films, Festivals, and Fans (Audience/Fan responses to film)
NOTE: Successful presentations in these streams may be scheduled alongside relevant papers submitted as a part of the FilmAsia sister conference, MediAsia.

We welcome submissions in the above streams, and propose the following three optional conference themes have been designed by the conference organizers to inspire research possibilities. The themes are designed to elicit a wide variety of interpretations as avenues of research.

1) Exchanges and Encounters
2) Journeys of Discovery
3) Elation and Despair

FilmAsia2012 Open Film Competition

The Asian Conference on Film and Documentary will show a selection of original short films in the following eight categories. An overall winner and runner-up will be chosen:

Fiction (under 20 minutes/under 40 minutes)
Documentary (under 20 minutes/under 40 minutes)
Anime (under 20 minutes/under 40 minutes)
Music Video (under 20 minutes/under 40 minutes)

Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted by the new extended deadline of September 25 2012.
All abstracts will be double blind reviewed by a voluntary team, and authors will usually be notified of the decision of the reviewers within two weeks of submission. Those who submit near the extended September 25 deadline will normally receive confirmation of acceptance or rejection by October 9, 2012. As we anticipate a large number of submissions, we strongly advise that you submit in advance of the deadline.
All accepted authors may have their full paper published in the online Conference proceedings. Full text submission is due by December 1, 2012.
Selected papers included from the proceedings will be considered for inclusion in the proposed FilmAsia 2012, Conference Journal. This will be fully refereed in accordance with international standards.

Submitting a full paper for inclusion in the proceedings is optional. If you do not wish your paper to be included then do not upload a paper on the system.
The deadline for full Conference payment for all presenters is October 15 2012.
